Operation Homecoming, led by the U.S. Marshals, successfully recovered over 30 missing children from Akron and Summit County. Running from August 19 to September 6, this joint effort involved the U.S. Marshals Service, Akron Police Department, and Summit County Sheriff’s Office, focusing on identifying and safely recovering endangered children in the area.
Operation Homecoming, led by the U.S. Marshals Service, successfully recovered over 30 missing children, including those from the Akron and Summit County areas. Running from August 19 to September 6, the operation involved collaboration between the U.S. Marshals, Akron Police Department, and Summit County Sheriff’s Office. Over the course of the operation, 32 children aged 13 to 18 were found, some in severe conditions involving trafficking and substance abuse. U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott and Summit County Sheriff Kandy Fatheree praised the collaborative effort’s impact on safely recovering these children and emphasized continued dedication to addressing such cases.
Law enforcement, in collaboration with Summit County Children Services, ensured that resources and support were available for recovered children, particularly those missing for extended periods. Akron Police Chief Brian Harding highlighted the success of the partnership in safely recovering a child found across the country. In 2015, federal lawmakers had expanded the U.S. Marshals’ authority to enhance their ability to search for missing children.
