Spotlight of the Week: Ms. Kara Wente

Ms. Kara Wente has dedicated her career to advocating for children and improving their lives through systemic change.

In August 2023, Governor Mike DeWine nominated her to be the director of the Department of Children and Youth, a role that perfectly aligns with her extensive experience and unwavering commitment to serving the most vulnerable children and families in Ohio.

Since January 2023, Wente has served as the Director of the Governor’s Children’s Initiative, and before that, she was the Chief Operating Officer for Future Ready Columbus.

With over 20 years of dedicated state service, Wente has consistently demonstrated her passion for making a positive impact.

Her tenure as the Assistant Director of Health and Human Services at the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services showcased her ability to use data as an accountability tool to drive systemic change.

As Deputy Director at the Office of Family Assistance, she led several large-scale system and policy changes, further solidifying her reputation as a transformative leader.

Ms. Wente’s educational background includes a Master’s in Education and Allied Professions from the University of Dayton and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from The Ohio State University.

Her academic achievements have provided a strong foundation for her professional endeavors, enabling her to approach complex challenges with a comprehensive and informed perspective.

Throughout her career, Wente has been a tireless advocate for children, always striving to improve their lives and ensure their well-being. Her nomination to lead the Department of Children and Youth is a testament to her dedication and expertise.
