Springfield Schools Closed Wednesday Due to Electrical Issues

Heavy rains on Tuesday led to widespread electrical problems that forced the closure of three Springfield schools on Wednesday: Simon Kenton Elementary, Roosevelt Middle, and Springfield High School.

District officials announced that while classes were canceled for safety reasons, evening activities would continue as planned unless otherwise updated. Maintenance crews were deployed early Wednesday morning to assess water damage and restore power to affected buildings.

Parents were advised to monitor official district channels for updates as crews worked to ensure facilities were safe for students’ return.

This temporary closure underscores a simple truth: every child has the right to a safe learning environment. Protecting students’ well-being must always come before academic schedules.
