Nine Ohio Children Found Living in Bug-Infested Home, Four Forced to Sleep in Shed

Nine children aged one to 13 have been placed in emergency protective custody in Ohio after authorities discovered horrifying living conditions, including cockroach infestations, inadequate bedding and children sleeping in a shed.

The children were removed from a home in Etna Township, Licking County, on October 14, 2026, following allegations of neglect and abuse reported by a school to child protection authorities.

According to NBC4, deputies discovered hundreds of insects throughout the property, while four children reportedly slept in an adjoining shed where firearms were found near sleeping areas.

Investigations revealed that some children were allegedly subjected to harsh punishments, including prolonged wall sits and squats. Others reported being denied access to food.

A school guidance counsellor had reportedly provided breakfast, lunch and snacks to two children because of concerns about their welfare.

Licking County Sheriff’s Office Captain Jay Cook described the living conditions as horrific and disgusting.

Two adults, Jonathan Parr and Jacquelyn Coleman, were subsequently charged with child endangerment. Authorities indicated that additional charges could follow.

Records also revealed that law enforcement agencies had responded to at least 17 previous calls involving the household since 2018.

The incident has raised serious concerns about child protection, particularly the identification of neglect and the effectiveness of interventions.

The children’s removal followed investigations by child welfare officials and law enforcement, highlighting the importance of schools in identifying and reporting suspected child abuse.
