New Partnership Brings Doctors Directly to Youth Clubs, Expanding Health Protection for Children

A new partnership between Akron Children’s Hospital and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio (BGCNEO) is being positioned as a major step toward strengthening health support systems around children where they already learn, socialize, and build life skills.

Under the agreement, Akron Children’s will become the exclusive pediatric health partner for BGCNEO, bringing direct medical services into club spaces that serve children and teenagers between the ages of 6 and 18.

The collaboration will establish a pediatric primary care office at the Broadway Club in Cleveland, creating a setting where medical care is integrated into a familiar and trusted community environment.

The initiative highlights how accessible health services can play a key role in early detection of health concerns, emotional distress, and other welfare issues that may affect a child’s development. When pediatric professionals operate within youth-focused spaces, they are more likely to observe patterns that may otherwise go unnoticed and intervene before problems escalate.

The planned 3,165-square-foot facility will include six examination rooms and a dedicated behavioral health consultation room, reinforcing the importance of addressing both physical and emotional well-being. Services will include routine checkups, preventative screenings, same-day sick visits, and telehealth consultations, ensuring that families can reach pediatric care without major barriers.

Children attending BGCNEO clubs across Lorain, Cuyahoga, Erie, and Summit counties will also gain easier access to Akron Children’s wider network of pediatric clinics.

By embedding pediatric care directly within community youth programs, the partnership reflects a broader shift toward proactive child safeguarding, placing healthcare, mentorship, and supportive services closer to where children spend their everyday lives.
