Ohio School Bus Carrying Football Team Crashes, 10 Injured

A school bus crash in Sandusky County left ten people injured Thursday evening, including eight junior high students from Northwood Local Schools. Authorities say the bus, carrying the football team home from a game in Lakota, failed to stop at a red light and was struck by a Jeep Compass.
The impact occurred just before 7 p.m. at the intersection of County Road 32 and County Road 41 in Scott Township. According to the State Highway Patrol, the bus was driven by a 67-year-old man from Northwood.
There were 26 people on board. One student was airlifted to Mercy Health–St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Six students were treated at ProMedica Memorial Hospital in Fremont, while another was taken to ProMedica Bay Park Hospital near Toledo. The bus driver and the Jeep’s 46-year-old driver from Fostoria also sustained minor injuries and received hospital care.
Northwood Local Schools said in a statement that all students are accounted for and receiving the necessary medical attention.
This incident underscores the child’s right to safety and protection, which calls for safeguarding children from harm in all settings, including while traveling to and from school activities.
The fact that the driver failed to stop at a red light, while responsible for transporting children, raises serious concerns of negligence and highlights the urgent need for stronger accountability when children’s lives are at stake.
