Ohio Sees a Spike in Missing Children Cases in 2023

A recent report from the Ohio Missing Children Clearinghouse highlights a concerning rise in missing children cases in 2023. Over 17,400 children were reported missing, marking a significant increase from the previous year.
Despite this, over 17,000 missing children were safely located by year’s end. Tragically, five children were found deceased. The report also addresses the circumstances behind these cases, revealing that over 9,000 involved runaways. Northeast Ohio, particularly the Cleveland, Akron, and Canton areas, saw some of the highest numbers, with Cuyahoga County alone accounting for nearly 3,000 reports.
