Two teenagers are facing serious charges after a fatal shooting in Springfield Township that police say stemmed from a drug deal gone wrong.

According to a news release, a 16-year-old from Cheviot and another 16-year-old from Springfield Township have been charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated murder in connection with the June 9 incident.

Police and paramedics responded around 10:35 p.m. to a report of a shooting in the 11000 block of Brookway Drive. When first responders arrived, they found a man unconscious in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. He had suffered a gunshot wound.

The victim, later identified as 20-year-old Morgan Myers of Clermont County, was transported to Mercy Health-Fairfield Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators say the shooting occurred during a planned drug transaction involving Myers and the two teens. The deal escalated into violence, ending in Myers’ death.

This case highlights the urgent need to protect children from drug involvement, as outlined in Article 33 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. It also raises concerns about parental responsibility and the role of families in preventing youth exposure to criminal activity.
