The Columbus Crew has launched an initiative that provides students with dedicated “Stay in the Game” rooms, aimed at promoting attendance and fostering positive social interactions in a safe environment. Family Ambassador Sarah Bowman notes that these unique spaces boost student morale and pride in their school.
The “Stay in the Game!” room is part of a District-wide initiative aimed at creating engaging environments that encourage regular school attendance. By rewarding good attendance, these specially designed spaces help students view school as a supportive and exciting place. Northtowne Principal Austin Taylor emphasizes that the initiative goes beyond sports, demonstrating to students the benefits of consistent school attendance and hard work. The room includes amenities like PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch consoles and foosball tables, making school more enjoyable and motivating students to improve attendance rates.
The “Stay in the Game!” room at Northtowne Elementary was established through a grant, aiming to provide students with a space to relax, connect, and take pride in their environment. The room enhances the school’s focus on social-emotional learning (SEL) with interactive activities that foster camaraderie. School Social Worker Dr. John Emmerich noted that such unique spaces encourage students to feel a sense of belonging, which boosts attendance. The partnership between Columbus City Schools and the Crew emphasizes student success, making these rooms essential for creating a more inclusive and motivating school experience.
