Ohio has recorded its lowest infant mortality rate in two decades, 6.6 deaths per 1,000 live births, prompting the state to invest further in maternal and child health.

Governor Mike DeWine announced $20 million in grants over the biennium to 21 nonprofits that provide expectant parents and caregivers with education, support, and essential services.

The Ohio Department of Children and Youth selected the grantees for their work in delivering prenatal education, parenting classes, referrals, case management, and material assistance to families.

Lt. Governor Jim Tressel said the investment ensures that women and families receive critical support during and after pregnancy, giving every child a strong start in life.

This continued commitment reflects the fundamental right of every child to the highest attainable standard of health, from birth through early development.
