AVON, Ohio-School districts, including those in Northeast Ohio, are grappling with a shortage of school bus drivers. Avon Lake’s Transportation Supervisor, Sue Cole, organized a recruitment event called “Test Drive A Bus” to address this issue. About 20 individuals attended the event to test their driving skills.
The initiative has generated interest, with some attendees starting the application process. Cole aims to hire three drivers and additional subcontractors. The success of Avon Lake’s event has inspired other districts, like Solon, to host similar recruitment events. In the meantime, Cole and her team remain committed to ensuring students’ transportation needs are met.
