BATAVIA, Ohio- A former West Clermont High School teacher, Rachel Smith, received her sentence after a 15-year-old student with Down syndrome was taped to a chair by staff. Alongside another teacher, Allison Vestring, both were charged with unlawful restraint. The incident occurred in March 2024 and came to light when an employee reported it to police. Vestring taped the student while Smith filmed the act, and a 46-second video was found on their phones. Both teachers were placed on administrative leave. Smith was convicted of unlawful restraint and endangering children, receiving three years of probation.
