MASSILLON, Ohio -Vivian Geraghty, a former middle school teacher in Ohio, is set to go to trial after resigning from her position at Jackson Local School District. Geraghty claims her First Amendment rights were violated when she was required to address transgender students by their preferred names and pronouns, which she refused to do based on her religious beliefs. The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio has ruled that forcing her to use students’ preferred names could be considered “compelled speech” and found the school’s pronoun policy was not neutral.
