< 1 min read

AKRON, Ohio-Summit Academy Akron Elementary School’s students are benefiting from high-impact tutoring, supported by the Ohio Department of Education and Amplify tutoring services. Liz Cohen, from Georgetown University’s FutureEd, visited the school to observe its tutoring program.

The tutoring, aligned with the science of reading, provides intensive instruction three days a week to 20 students, focusing on English language arts. Cohen highlighted the success of the program, emphasizing its positive impact on student achievement, engagement, and attendance. She views it as an accidental natural experiment resulting from post-pandemic academic catch-up efforts and is exploring ways to sustain successful tutoring programs. Summit Academy plans to continue and expand its tutoring initiatives, prioritizing support for students in need.
