BARBERTON, Ohio-At the May 22 Board of Education meeting, Barberton City Schools Treasurer Craig McKendry presented an update on the district’s five-year forecast. The report highlighted various financial aspects, including revenue sources, General Fund expenditures, and considerations for future insurance costs. McKendry noted a projected $3.1 million negative balance in Fiscal Year 2028, emphasizing uncertainties due to unknown state biennial budgets and increasing insurance expenses, partly attributed to a post-COVID surge in claims.
He suggested the possibility of a future levy, acknowledging the need for financial planning. The meeting also recognized several retirees and outgoing Superintendent Jeff Ramnytz, who expressed gratitude for his time with the district. Additionally, the board approved various agreements, appointments, field trips, contracts, and resolutions, including a tentative three-year agreement with the Barberton Education Association and agreements with Summit Education Initiative and Dedicated School Staffing.
