New School Board Layout Designed to Lead to Better Meetings

< 1 min read

AKRON, Ohio-Recently, Akron Public Schools addressed a logistical issue in their boardroom that had School Board member Carla Jackson frequently apologizing due to the seating arrangement, which forced her to turn her back on speakers when she needed to use a microphone. In response, the boardroom layout was revamped to a U-shape configuration with the podium at the opening, eliminating the need for apologies and allowing for better interaction during meetings. This temporary solution will be replaced by a new board table built by students starting this fall, providing more space and accommodating additional staff members and guests. The project involves students from local learning centers, who will engage in hands-on learning by constructing a wood veneer-covered table adorned with artistic elements, including the APS logo. The redesigned setup aims to enhance engagement for both board members and online viewers of the meetings.
