COLUMBUS, Ohio-The Columbus City Schools Board of Education received initial recommendations for potential school closures and consolidations from the Superintendent’s Community Facilities Task Force. The recommendations include nine scenarios involving the closure of 20 school buildings across the district.
These recommendations come after the district passed a significant levy, signaling intentions to close some of its 113 school buildings. The task force, comprising public members, parents, and educational professionals, met several times to formulate these recommendations, although one member resigned due to concerns about mass school closures. The list of schools at risk includes various locations across the city, with criteria for the scenarios focusing on equity, access to programs, grade standardization, and honoring previous taxpayer investments.
