CINCINNATI, Ohio-Sheletta Brundidge, a mother of four, understands the challenges of parenting children with autism, as three of her children have the condition. She describes the constant vigilance required to keep her children safe, saying that she spends every day ensuring their safety. Brundidge was deeply saddened by the news of a 6-year-old boy with autism who wandered away from his home and drowned. She relates to this tragedy, as her own autistic child has a tendency to wander and has escaped multiple times when she briefly lost sight of him.
