YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio-The President of the Youngstown Education Association, Jane Haggerty, faces calls for her resignation from union members due to allegations of dishonesty and misrepresentation in her leadership. Haggerty, a 7th-grade math teacher at East Middle School, was appointed this summer. During a private meeting, teachers expressed concerns about her actions not being in the union’s best interest. Although she left the meeting early and stated she would not resign, the union is moving towards an impeachment process. Haggerty previously led efforts to remove former President Eric Teutsch and is now criticized for communication issues and allegedly silencing union voices. In April, the YEA secured a two-year contract with the Youngstown Board of Education to prevent a strike.
