School Board Member Revisits Alma Mater to Pitch Columbus School Closure Plan

COLUMBUS, Ohio-Brandon Simmons, a member of the Columbus City School board and an alumnus of Columbus Alternative High School, advocated for the consolidation of the school with Columbus Downtown High School.

Simmons highlighted the outdated facilities and limited resources at Columbus Alternative, emphasizing the need to prioritize students’ success. The district’s proposal includes various scenarios for school closures and mergers, aiming to garner community support. However, the plan faces challenges, including opposition from teachers and upset parents over the potential closures.
