MARION, Ohio-A teacher at Hayes Elementary School in Marion is facing felony assault charges after being caught on camera slapping a 7-year-old student with special needs. The child, who has non-verbal autism, was allegedly slapped as she was leaving the building. The incident was reported to school leaders by another staff member, and the child’s mother only learned about it through this report. The mother expressed her devastation, stating that it was one of her worst fears to have such an incident occur in what she believed to be a safe environment.
