CINCINNATI, Ohio-Hamilton County has achieved a significant milestone as its newborn death rate fell below the national average for the first time. Driven by efforts of Cradle Cincinnati, infant deaths decreased by over 35% from 8.7 deaths per 1,000 births in 2022 to 5.5 deaths in 2023. Although the rate remains higher among Black newborns, it also saw improvement from 13.7 deaths to nine per 1,000 births. The organization attributes this progress to initiatives focused on prenatal care access, anti-tobacco education during pregnancy, and crucial social support programs like Queens Village.
