AKRON, Ohio-Over 70 students from Akron and nearby schools participated in the 14th annual Soap Box Derby Gravity Racing STEM Challenge at Derby Downs. The event involved building and racing soap box derby cars while gaining practical knowledge of STEM concepts like force, friction, and gravity.

Eighth grader Kristina Gonzalez from St. Vincent DePaul, competing for her second year, expressed gratitude for the opportunity. Her team, after learning from past mistakes, won over five races, labeling it a comeback year. The American Soap Box Derby World Championship is set to return to Akron in July, expecting participation from over 300 children from around the U.S., Japan, and Canada.
