PERRYSBURG, Ohio-With six weeks until Election Day, Perrysburg Schools is seeking voter approval for an incremental operating levy, distinct from previous bond issues that aimed to fund new buildings. Superintendent Tom Hosler emphasized that the levy is crucial for covering staff salaries, utility costs, and bus operations. The current operating levy, which generates $13.5 million annually, expires in December and constitutes less than 20% of the district’s $72 million budget. If approved, the new levy would initially collect the same amount, then increase by $2 million each year until 2031. Taxpayers can expect to pay about $4.20 monthly for every $100,000 of appraised home value, amounting to an estimated $341 in 2024, rising to $693 by 2031. Hosler noted that as the district grows, costs could be lower due to a larger tax base. He held a meeting to discuss the levy but no one attended. Despite this, he remains committed to informing the community about the importance of the levy for students.
