Sleepy young faces, some with eyes cast to the floor, filed into the halls of Ethel M. Taylor Academy, newly opened as a middle school, at 8 a.m. Wednesday. A handful of the seventh and eighth graders stood quietly against a wall across from metal detectors that blocked front doors on this first day of school, Aug. 20. Others appeared ecstatic as they reunited with friends.
