LIMA, Ohio-Mercy Health-St. Rita’s is fostering local talent through its Rising Star program, which offers high school students paid month-long internships in various healthcare fields, including surgery, pharmacy, and nursing. The initiative aims to connect students with career opportunities and encourage them to remain in the Lima area after graduation. Carla Thompson, a resource navigator at the medical center, emphasized the importance of growing local talent to better reflect the community. This year, eight students from Lima City Schools and Lima Central Catholic participated in the program, now in its third year.
