Far More White Ohio High School Students are Taking College Courses than their Black Peers

< 1 min read

AKRON, Ohio-Ohio has a higher percentage of high school students taking college courses, particularly through dual enrollment programs, compared to most other states. However, the state’s students of color, especially Black students, remain underrepresented in these programs. While Black students make up about 16% of Ohio’s high school population, they consistently represent only 6% to 7% of dual enrollment participants. In contrast, White students, who account for about 70% to 73% of dual enrollment participants, are slightly overrepresented relative to their share of the overall high school population.
