Painesville Fourth-Grader Finishes Fifth in Section in National Chess Tournament

PAINSVILLE, Ohio-Kellen Alexander, a fourth-grader from Painesville, achieved fifth place in his section at the U.S. Chess Federation’s 2024 National Elementary Championship in Columbus. With an impressive record of five wins, one loss, and one draw, he was among 120 competitors in the K-5 Under 1200 section.

Kellen, supported by his proud mother Allison and coached by William Davis, nearly clinched first place, falling short by just one point. Despite initial nerves, Kellen found confidence and enjoyment in the tournament, feeling like a winner afterward. His participation was based on his USCF chess rating of 1,013.
