Ohio Hospital Screens 7,000 Young Children for Reading Skills Before They Start School

An Ohio hospital is using routine paediatric check-ups to identify early literacy challenges among children before they enter formal schooling. At six of Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s 13 clinics in Columbus, children aged 3 to 5 are receiving five-minute literacy screenings during regular paediatric visits. Since the programme began in 2022, more than 7,000 children have been screened.
