AKRON, Ohio-Issue 27, a crucial levy for Akron Public Schools, passed early Wednesday morning with 57.7% of voters in favor, after months of grassroots campaigning. The levy, the first school tax increase in 12 years, will provide vital revenue to prevent major deficit spending and fund a new North High School. Over 63,000 votes were counted across 118 precincts, and the success was celebrated by levy supporters, including Carla Chapman, the district’s chief diversity officer, who praised the deep community connections made during the campaign.
