Gov. Mike DeWine: 24-hour Waiting Period for Abortion Should Remain in Ohio Law

COLUMBUS, Ohio-Ohio Governor Mike DeWine insists on maintaining the 24-hour waiting period for abortions in Ohio, regardless of the recent vote to add abortion rights to the state constitution. DeWine, echoing Attorney General Dave Yost’s stance, believes that since Ohio’s abortion restrictions were established before Roe v. Wade, they should remain in place.

Yost is currently fighting a lawsuit seeking to remove the waiting period and other restrictions. However, Kellie Copeland of Pro-Choice Ohio argues that the recent vote does more than uphold Roe v. Wade and prevents political barriers to various reproductive healthcare services. DeWine emphasizes the importance of supporting pregnant individuals facing difficult situations during his appearance at the Columbus Metropolitan Club.
