TALLMADGE, Ohio-In March, an 8-year-old named Trey Lewis, along with three school staff members, was honored for their quick actions in saving a student’s life. Trey noticed his classmate choking on a granola bar containing cashews and alerted Assistant Principal David Ravida, who managed to dislodge the food but noticed signs of an allergic reaction.
School nurse Beth Wyslutsky and medical assistant Patty Kidwell then administered an Epipen. Trey’s actions were praised as heroic, and the incident highlighted the importance of being prepared for emergencies. The student who had the allergic reaction is now okay, and the event coincided with the start of National Nurses Week. The identities of those involved were kept private for privacy reasons.
