April 12th, 2024-AKRON, Ohio-Akron Children’s Hospital has unveiled a new Family Resource Center and Unity Center, occupying a renovated 1,400 square foot space on the third floor of the hospital. The $1.7 million facility features a welcoming entry area with a reception desk and multilingual signage. The Family Resource Center serves as a central hub where families can access support from Akron Children’s staff and connect with community organizations for resources and information.
Services offered include population health resources, a safety center, patient family library, patient relations assistance, translation services, computer access, and a business center. Additionally, the center hosts the Summit County Public Health WIC Clinic and the United Way of Summit & Medina Financial Empowerment Center on select days, providing nutrition counseling, childcare assistance, financial coaching, and tax preparation services to eligible families.
