COLUMBUS, Ohio-The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled that Timothy Williams, a teenager accused of murder and tampering with evidence, will be tried in adult court. Previously, the case was in juvenile court, but a legal challenge resulted in the transfer to adult court.
The court cited the precedent set by the 2022 State v. Burns case, allowing related charges to be tried in adult court. Justice Patrick F. Fischer emphasized the connection between the tampering charge and the murder, justifying its consideration in adult court.
Chief Justice Sharon L. Kennedy supported a broader interpretation of the law, suggesting that adult courts should be able to add charges even if not initially considered in juvenile court.
