LOGAN, Ohio-Logan-Hocking School District Superintendent Monte Bainter, along with Assistant Superintendent Christy Bosch and Treasurer Paul Shaw, held a public presentation Thursday evening to address concerns about the district’s declining enrollment. This meeting was part of the district’s “fact-finding” efforts before making decisions on potential redistricting or other changes. The district’s enrollment has dropped by 10% since 2016, with kindergarten enrollment decreasing by over 25%. Shaw noted a significant decline in birth rates, which is expected to continue, though there was a small increase in births in Hocking County for the 2024 incoming kindergarten class. However, many young families seem to be moving out of the district or choosing alternative education options, contributing to a net loss of 83 students in 2024.
