AKRON, Ohio-Phillip Mendoza, 62, was sentenced to 15 to 20.5 years in prison for the August 2020 shooting death of toddler Tyree Halsell in Akron. Mendoza pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder and three counts of felonious assault. He fired into a home on 5th Avenue, injuring three people, including Halsell, who died from his injuries. Two others survived, and four additional people inside the home were unharmed. Mendoza must serve at least 15 years of his sentence.
