TOLEDO, Ohio-Toledo police have initiated an Internal Affairs investigation after officers failed to report atrocious living conditions for children at a west Toledo home, despite responding to the residence on three occasions. Officers were called in June and July but did not report the alleged child endangerment. It was only on August 31 that the situation was reported, leading to the arrest of Jason Baran, 42, and Maryann Baran, 40, on charges of endangering children. The investigation will examine why the initial reports of child abuse were not documented. Court documents describe severe neglect and abuse, including unsanitary conditions, lack of basic necessities, and visible injuries on the children.
