OTAWA HILLS, Ohio-Ottawa Hills school district voters have approved a new 12.9-mill property tax levy, generating $2.343 million annually. Initially planned for the 2023 ballot, the levy was delayed due to a ballot language error submitted by the former district treasurer.
The error, stating a lower cost for property owners, was discovered by Lucas County elections officials, but it couldn’t be rectified in time. Despite challenges, including a failed appeal to the Ohio Supreme Court, the levy passed. The delay necessitated budget cuts for the district.
