Brooklyn Schools Bond Issue Headed to Automatic Recount After Measure Passes by Just 8 Votes

April 12th, 2024-CLEVELAND, Ohio-Cuyahoga County has certified the March primary election results, but the outcome of Issue 21, a $20 million bond issue for Brooklyn City Schools, remains too close to call. Issue 21 passed by a margin of just eight votes after mail and provisional ballots were added to the final tally.

With a margin of less than 0.5%, an automatic recount under Ohio law will occur. The bond would fund various improvements to district buildings, costing taxpayers an additional $104 annually per $100,000 of property value. State procedures mandate a hand recount for some precincts within the district, with the rest rescanned electronically. If discrepancies arise, all ballots will be manually reviewed. The recount is scheduled for Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections and will be open to observers and the public.
