Richmond, Ohio-Fifteen-year-old Jaylynn Parker of New Richmond, Ohio, made headlines by breaking a state record after catching a massive 101-pound blue catfish on April 7 while jug fishing on the Ohio River in Clermont County. Assisted by her father and a family friend, Parker hauled in the colossal fish, which measured 56.5 inches long and 39.5 inches long.
The Outdoor Writers of Ohio confirmed the record, previously held by Chris Rolph, who caught a 96-pound blue catfish in 2009. The organization, responsible for maintaining fishing records in Ohio since the 1940s, determined Parker’s achievement. Blue catfish, native to the Ohio River Basin, are known for their preference for large rivers with deep channels, swift currents, and sandy bottoms, according to NOAA Fisheries.
