Ohio Attendance Law Tightens School Monitoring as Districts Strengthen Support for Children

Ohio’s new school attendance law is changing how schools monitor missed instructional time, with districts required to intervene earlier when children begin accumulating absences. The law now counts every absence towards a student’s official attendance record, including absences for illness, medical appointments and family trips. The change lowers the threshold at which schools must contact families and begin addressing attendance concerns.
