April 15th, 2024-CLEVELAND, Ohio-Eddie McCarthy, a math teacher at Whitmer High School in Toledo, Ohio, is donating a kidney to his former student, Roman McCormick, who suffers from branchiootorenal (BOR) syndrome, a rare condition affecting kidney function. Roman’s parents initiated a search for a live donor, which gained attention through local news outlets. McCarthy saw Roman’s story, got tested, and was found to be a match.
The surgeries are scheduled for July 19 at the University of Michigan University Hospital. McCarthy’s selfless act has garnered immense gratitude from Roman’s parents.
