LORAIN, Ohio-From October 7-10, Lorain High School students engaged in an interactive theater workshop focused on Shakespeare’s “Macbeth,” organized by the Great Lakes Theater Residency Program. This initiative stemmed from a summer workshop where English teachers sought to bring literature to life. 10th-graders prepared by reading “Macbeth” and the novel “Long Way Down,” which shares themes of revenge and justice. They also viewed Denzel Washington’s 2021 film adaptation of “Macbeth,” sparking deep discussions about coping with loss and anger. Teachers Kelly Brion and Kaila Phan highlighted the students’ insightful questions and connections to their own lives. The program included costumes and prop swords, allowing students to immerse themselves in the dramatic experience. This collaboration aligns with Lorain Schools’ commitment to Universal Design for Learning, ensuring diverse student needs are met through engaging, hands-on instruction.
