GIRARD, Ohio-Girard City Schools Treasurer Mark Bello has resigned after an investigation revealed a change in contract language resulting in him receiving nearly half a million dollars in one year. During a special meeting, the Board accepted Bello’s resignation and appointed Stacy Foster as the interim treasurer.
The Board plans to initiate a search for a full-time treasurer. An audit revealed Bello received a significant pay increase, prompting the Ohio Auditor’s Office to criticize the excessive use of district resources. The Board, unaware of the pay increase, unanimously approved the contract change. The matter has raised concerns within the community, prompting the Board to hire a lawyer for clarification. The next board meeting will allow public comment, with individuals required to sign up before the agenda is finalized.
