BG School Board Hears About Drug Testing, School Safety

< 1 min read

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio-During a recent Bowling Green Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Francis Scruci proposed revisiting the idea of implementing drug testing for student athletes and forming an ad-hoc committee to discuss this with parents. Scruci emphasized the importance of addressing drug and alcohol use among students and highlighted recent incidents involving substance possession at school.

The district also hosted a program called “Hidden in Plain Sight” to educate parents and staff about how students conceal drug and alcohol use. Additionally, Scruci addressed concerns regarding a student-made list that raised safety concerns, clarifying that the police found no evidence of a credible threat. During public comments, off-duty Bowling Green Police Sgt. Paul Tyson criticized the board for not implementing armed security measures in schools, citing potential threats to student safety. Tyson urged the board to take precautions and emphasized the importance of protecting students.
