TOLEDO, Ohio-LISC Toledo plans to convert a former Toledo elementary school, Webster Elementary, into low-income senior apartments named Thurgood Marshall Senior Apartments, aiming to address the need for affordable housing for seniors in Lucas County. With a $32 million investment, the project will provide 86 units of affordable housing for low-income seniors.
The initiative involves partners like Lucas Metropolitan Housing, the Area Office on Aging of Northwestern Ohio, NeighborWorks Toledo, and Community Building Partners. LISC Toledo’s $500,000 investment supports property assessments, architectural and engineering design. The project includes historic preservation of the Webster Elementary building, constructed in 1922, and will offer supportive services such as benefits counseling and nutrition education to enhance the well-being of senior residents.
