OHSP Reminds Drivers of School Bus Laws

COLUMBUS, Ohio-As students return to school, the Ohio State Highway Patrol emphasizes the importance of student safety. Since 2019, there have been 6,145 traffic crashes involving school buses in Ohio, with eight resulting in fatalities, including one student. OSHP advises drivers to stop at least 10 feet from a school bus with flashing lights and an extended arm, and not to resume driving until the bus moves. Drivers should also plan for potential delays. School buses are inspected twice a year for safety, with over 200,000 inspections conducted by OSHP since 2019.
