Galion City Schools to Benefit from No Kid Hungry Grant to Combat Summer Hunger

COLUMBUS, Ohio-Summer months can be particularly challenging for children who rely on school meals, as these meals are not available when school is out. To address this issue, new guidelines allow for more flexible non-congregate meal services in rural communities. No Kid Hungry Ohio has announced over $104,000 in grants to support ten organizations in providing summer meals. Many families, especially in rural areas, struggle with food access during summer, with over half reporting insufficient funds for food and 80% spending an additional $168 on groceries each month when school is out. Summer meal programs aim to provide nutritious meals, but barriers such as transportation, fuel costs, and extreme weather have historically limited their reach.
