Literacy program for Black Boys Seeks Volunteers

< 1 min read

TOLEDO, Ohio-The “Real Men Read-y” program aims to improve literacy rates among Black boys by enlisting Black male volunteers to mentor and read with them. Program coordinator Randall Parker III highlighted that 80% of the boys are reading below their grade level, and Black male volunteers can serve as role models and cultural mentors. Volunteers dedicate one hour per week reading to kindergarten boys at Toledo Public Schools, with Parker sharing that the experience is impactful and life-changing. Those interested in volunteering can contact Parker by email or call Read for Literacy for more information.
