20 Schools Considered for Closure Under Initial Columbus School Board Recommendations

< 1 min read

COLUMBUS, Ohio-Columbus City Schools is contemplating closing 20 out of its 100+ school facilities based on recommendations from a community task force. The proposals, outlined at a recent board meeting, involve nine scenarios where three to four schools could be shut down, though not all 20 schools are guaranteed to close.

The affected schools are primarily elementary ones, along with a few high schools like Marion Franklin and Columbus Alternative. The closures aim to address maintenance costs and a decline in enrollment. However, concerns have been raised by parents and community members regarding the impact on students and the lack of community engagement in the decision-making process. The district is soliciting feedback through community forums and virtual events before final decisions are made in June.
